Workbox Announces New Coworking Office in Chicago’s Historic National Building
Chicago-based coworking operator Workbox is preparing for its biggest Windy City location yet with the upcoming opening of a new, 29,000-square-foot coworking office in Chicago’s landmark National Building. Located in the Loop — already one of Chicago’s hottest neighborhoods for coworking — the new location will mark Workbox’s fifth coworking office in Chicago and eighth overall since its launch four years ago.
The goal of the new coworking space, like all of those operated by Workbox, is to provide access to quality shared office space and amenities to early- and growth-stage companies. To that end, besides quality coworking space, Workbox Chicago-The Loop will provide direct connections to more than 100 capital and operating partners; networking events; and professional advisors, giving solopreneurs and innovators the best chances at a running start. Coworking provides more flexibility in terms of overhead costs as well as a professional atmosphere and services for a fraction of the cost of a traditional office lease, potentially benefiting freelancers and small businesses alike.
“We are Chicago-born and bred and are very proud to continue to invest in a city that is leading innovation in the Midwest,” said John Wallace, co-founder and CEO of Workbox. “The Loop is literally the heart of our amazing city with all major transportation routes flowing like arteries to the city center. The addition of this last major Chicago sub-market will allow us to expand our unique support structure to companies across the whole city. The building choice was also an easy one for us. Our members want elevated connectivity, and there are few locations driving as much human interaction in the city as Revival Food Hall. The Loop is undeniably coming back from an activation standpoint, and Revival Food Hall deserves a lot of credit for leading this recovery over the last 24 months.”
Located at 125 S. Clark St., the National (originally named the Commercial National Bank Building) was completed in 1907 and stands 231 feet tall. As one of the foremost landmarks in the Loop’s commercial building history, the National was designated as a Chicago Landmark by the city council in 2016. Workbox Chicago-The Loop will occupy Suite 1700 within the building.
Amenities in the new coworking office will include a large, open kitchen; multiple lounges; and more than 85 dedicated offices of varying sizes. Members also get access to several advantages presented by the National Building itself, such as a tenant-only fitness center and lounge, as well as the Revival Food Hall. Workbox will offer a variety of membership options with great discounts for its new location.
