Multi-family veteran Christopher Payne has joined SARES-REGIS Group as its new president of multi-family development, and will also become a partner in the company.

In his new position, Payne will be responsible for all multi-family development operations. In addition, he will be taking on key management responsibilities held by SRG managing director Geoffrey Stack, who plans to scale back from day-to-day involvement with the company he co-founded in 1993.

“Chris will bring a wealth of experience to our multi-family development and construction business,” Stack said in a company release. “Chris is an outstanding individual of great integrity, strong work ethic and exceptional leadership skills. He will be a tremendous addition to the SRG team.”

Payne has spent the past 14 years with AvalonBay Communities, where he served as head of the investment trust’s multi-family development business in Southern California. His responsibilities included the acquisition, entitlement, design and construction of various multi-family product types for both urban and suburban locations throughout the six-county region.

Before AvalonBay, Payne’s resume includes managing new development activity for Belmont Corp. in Southern California and working with Greystone as a project manager for new home developments.

At SARES-REGIS, he will be responsible for a portfolio of more than 15,000 apartments valued at approximately $2.5 billion and 20 million square feet of commercial properties.

Payne received a B.S. in Business Administration/Finance from California State University, Fullerton in 1991, and a Masters in Real Estate Development from the University of Southern California in 1996.
