Time Inc. has begun moving into its new headquarters at 225 Liberty St., in New York City, transitioning away from the historic Time & Life Building, which has been the company headquarters since it was built in 1959.
To start the transition, titles such as Essence, Health, InStyle, MIMI, People en Español, Real Simple and StyleWatch are the first Time Inc. brands to move into the space.
“The expansive lower floor plates were available to Time Inc., allowing us to bring the brands together to work more collaboratively,” Donna Clark, Time Inc.’s senior vice president, real estate, told Commercial Property Executive. “We were able to build to suit and make the space our own, building for Time Inc.’s future.”
Time Inc.’s footprint within the Brookfield Place complex spans 700,000 square feet across eight floors. The company commissioned STUDIOS Architecture to design the new space, which features an open, collaborative environment that drives creativity and innovation.
The headquarters boasts amenity and specialty spaces including the Henry R. Luce Auditorium, state-of-the-art video and photo studios, a 160-seat cafeteria, a terrace overlooking the Hudson River, the Food & Wine test kitchen, a wine room and multiple fashion, beauty and home closets, among others.
“The breadth of emerging media and digital companies in Lower Manhattan is amazing, and the pulse of digital entrepreneurialism is really remaking the area,” Clark said. “Also, the property is right on the Hudson River offering beautiful views, and we have access to many amenity spaces within Brookfield Place.”
According to Clark, Time Inc. is undergoing a business transformation that will better position the company for future success.
“Moving to our new headquarters helps facilitate this transformation,” she said. “We were able to build to suit, creating an open, collaborative workspace. This new environment triggers great collaboration, creativity and innovation.”
The company will continue to have people move in over the next several weeks and plans to be fully in by the end of 2015. Time Inc. is also creating an outpost in Brooklyn’s Industry City that will open by the end of the year.
