Miami—W Hotels Worldwide announced the opening of W Miami, the brand’s third unit in Florida.
Located in Brickell, the city’s trendy downtown area, the hotel offers 148 guest rooms and suites, and 38 residential units serviced by the hotel. The former Viceroy Miami is scheduled to go under renovation for developing the brand’s trademark entertainment and dining facilities.
The hotel’s 15th floor will house the W Living Room, overlooking Biscayne Bay, while the 50thfloor and the rooftop will become a glamorous sky bar, complete with the brand’s WET deck. “Miami is a destination made for W, from the emerging designers and graffiti artists to the incredible music scene, and we’re excited to re-imagine this great property as a W right in the beating heart of this vibrant city,” Anthony Ingham, global brand leader at W Hotels Worldwide, said in a prepared statement.
W Miami is at the heart of Icon Brickell, the ten-acre mixed-use development known for its two-acre infinity pool and impressive spa. The neighborhood is one of Miami’s busiest, boasting a mix of financial centers, high-end condos, boutiques and upscale restaurants.
Viceroy Miami was purchased recently by Al Rayyan Tourism Investment Company (ARTIC) from Qatar. “It is our fifth investment in the US and our second in Miami, and its acquisition, which is fully in line with our targeted strategic approach, demonstrates the strides which ARTIC is successfully making in the global arena. We are excited to be working with Starwood Hotels & Resorts on this project in Downtown Miami. With the brand’s proven success in this market and exceptional reputation as a lifestyle innovator, W Hotels will bring new energy to the area for residents and travelers alike,” H.E. Sheikh Faisal Bin Qassim Al Thani, chairman of ARTIC, said in prepared remarks.
W Miami is the second property owned by the W chain located in the greater Miami Area and the third in Florida, after W South Beach and W Lauderdale.
