Choice Hotels Celebrates Cambria Philadelphia Groundbreaking

Philadelphia–Choice Hotels International, along with Pearl Properties and Concord Hospitality Enterprises held a ceremonial groundbreaking for a new Cambria hotel & suites in the heart of Center City.

Officially announced last year, the 222-key, 14-story Cambria Philadelphia at 219-225 S. Broad St. is set to open in 2017. Amenities include a first-class restaurant on the ground floor, 2,500 square feet of meeting space, a mobile business center, 2,500-square-foot pool area, 2,000-square-foot fitness center and a rooftop area for private events.

Built by locally based Pearl Properties, the hotel was designed by DAS Architects, also of Philadelphia, and will be managed by Concord Hospitality of Raleigh, N.C.

Situated along the Avenue of The Arts, at the corner of Broad and Locust Street, the property offers immediate access to numerous dining and entertainment options, cultural and historic sites, as well as several Fortune 1000 companies, including AmerisourceBergen, Aramark and Comcast. The hotel is also only a few miles up Broad Street from Lincoln Financial Field, Wells Fargo Center and Citizens Bank Park.

“In a city full of rich history and tradition, Philadelphia is an ideal next stop in our expansion of the Cambria hotels & suites brand,” stated Steve Joyce, Choice Hotels president & CEO, in prepared remarks. “With more and more visitors coming to Philadelphia each year, our newest Cambria location will be at the epicenter of music, art and performance in the city, as well as a convenient new offering for the area’s largest businesses.”

The project marks Cambria parent Choice Hotels’ first venture into the upper end of the Center City Philadelphia market, the Philadelphia Magazine reported. Choice Hotels also had a mid-range Comfort Inn at Penn’s Landing, which changed hands several years ago and is now a Holiday Inn Express. Other nearby projects include two franchised Choice affiliates catering to the budget traveler in Center City–a Sleep Inn on Race Street in Chinatown and a Rodeway Inn on Walnut Street in Washington Square West’s Midtown Village section.

Brand representatives, key local dignitaries and guests celebrated the groundbreaking with the unveiling of a commissioned illustration by local artist Hawk Krall at the site of the new hotel.
