Middletown, N.Y.–Movers in and around Middletown have relied on their local U-Haul store at 381 Route 211 for truck and trailer rentals and moving supplies since 1986.
However, following a recent expansion, U-Haul Moving & Storage of Silver Lake can now offer self-storage options to its customers as well.
The company acquired a 1.93-acre abutting property along Neely Street, which had sat vacant for years. The renovated three-story, climate-controlled indoor storage and U-Box building is now ready to meet customer demand during the busy summer moving season with 329 new self-storage units.
“For years, we had no way to offer storage solutions in this area,” Patrick Keefe, president of U-Haul Co. of Lower Hudson Valley, said in prepared remarks. “Now the community can take advantage of our clean, dry and secure storage products right in their own neighborhood. This truly means added convenience for everyone.”
“Reusing a piece of property that was once in disarray while being able to expand our product and service line is very exciting. The entire process has brought me closer to the residents of Middletown and we’ve had such a great response from the community. We plan to serve this area for many years to come,” Keefe added.
The Middletown expansion was driven by U-Haul Co.’s Corporate Sustainability initiatives through which the company supports infill development to help local communities lower their carbon footprint. U-Haul’s adaptive reuse of existing buildings reduces the amount of energy and resources required for new-construction materials and helps cities reduce their unwanted inventory of unused buildings.
