Austin, TexasKalahari Resorts and Conventions has chosen Round Rock, Texas as the location of its fourth family resort and convention center. Owner Todd Nelson and his family intend to build a $250 million water park and hotel complex in the suburban Williamson County city north of Austin.

The park will sit on the company’s 355-acre site located across from the Dell Diamond minor-league baseball stadium and will mirror the company’s existing resorts: authentically African-themed and including up to 1,000 guest rooms, indoor and outdoor waterparks, restaurants, a family entertainment center, spa and convention center.

“We are incredibly excited to bring our authentically African resort experience to the Southwest for the first time,” said Todd Nelson, owner of Kalahari Resorts and Conventions. “The city of Round Rock has been incredibly welcoming, and we look forward to finalizing plans to officially become a part of this great community.”

“We are thrilled Kalahari has chosen Round Rock for its first expansion into the Southwest,” Mayor Alan McGraw said. “This game-changing project will be a great benefit to our community, continuing our efforts to diversify the local economy. We look forward to working with the Nelson family to bring their vision to reality in Round Rock.”

The Round Rock site will be the company’s first resort and convention center in the Southwest and fourth destination overall. The other locations include Pocono Mountains (opened in July 2015), Sandusky, Ohio (2005) and Wisconsin Dells, Wis. (2000).
