Dominion Virginia Gets the Go-Ahead for Solar Trio
Scheduled for completion in December, the facilities will generate 56 megawatts at sites in Powhatan, Louisa and Isle of Wight counties.

Richmond, Va.—The State Corporation Commission (SCC) has approved Dominion Virginia Power’s $129.5 million plan to construct three solar generation facilities in Powhatan, Louisa and Isle of Wight counties.
The three solar farms total 56 megawatts of potential generation and are expected to produce about 124 gigawatts of electricity annually, enough to power about 10,300 homes.
Dominion Virginia will pay for the projects with the help of a rate rider that will increase monthly residential bills by 7 cents. Construction is expected to be completed in December.
The three projects include:
- Scott Solar—a 17-megawatt facility on a 165-acre site in Powhatan County;
- Whitehouse Solar—a 20-megawatt facility on a 250-acre site in Louisa County;
- Woodland Solar—a 19-megawatt facility on a 200-acre site in Isle of Wight County.
Dominion has committed to build at least 400 megawatts of solar power by 2020.
