Virginia Beach, Va.—The office of Virginia Governor Terry McAuliffe recently announced that Barcelona-based fineblanking and car parts manufacturer Sanjo Corte Fino will establish its North American headquarters in Virginia Beach. The advanced manufacturing company will act as supplier for German manufacturer Stihl, also based in Virginia Beach, as well as for automotive suppliers.
As part of the move, Sanjo will invest $17.5 million and add 85 highly-skilled jobs to the area. The upcoming industrial development, which won against Kentucky, was secured by the Virginia Economic Development Partnership and the City of Virginia Beach. The project will benefit from a series of incentives, including a $250,000 grant from the Commonwealth’s Opportunity Fund, sales and use tax exemptions for Sanjo, as well as funding and services to support employee trainings provided through the Virginia Jobs Investment Program.
Currently exporting to 27 countries across four continents, family-owned Sanjo is expanding in North America for the first time. According to Governor McAuliffe’s office, Virginia is home to more than 180 firms based outside the U.S.
“Advanced manufacturing is a critical business sector whose growth contributes to the diversification of the Commonwealth’s economy … The company will greatly benefit from Virginia Beach’s premier infrastructure, proximity to the Port of Virginia and best-in-class business environment,” said Maurice Jones, Virginia’s Secretary of Commerce and Trade, in a prepared statement.
