MGM’s $1.4B National Harbor Casino to Open in December

Washington—The $1.4 billion MGM National Harbor luxury casino resort will officially open Dec. 8, 2016, and is already accepting reservations, MGM Resorts International announced.

The development broke ground mid-2014 and was projected to bring 2,000 construction jobs and 4,000 permanent jobs to the area. Maryland’s sixth casino is now ready for business, and business it will be for Prince George’s County. The new destination features a 24-story, 308-key luxury hotel with rooms and suites ranging from 400 to 3,210 square feet.

Located 12 miles south of downtown D.C., along Interstate 495 and across the Potomac River from Alexandria, the resort will also offer 50,000 square feet of meeting space, including a 16,200-square-foot grand ballroom and VIP suites. The 125,000-square-foot casino will feature more than 3,300 slot machines alongside table games and poker.

MGM National Harbor will also bring a 3,000-seat theater, nine upscale and casual dining options, two bar & lounge destinations, a 27,000-square-foot spa & salon, fitness center, 18,000 square feet of luxury retail, and an outdoor heated pool.

“Under one roof, guests will enjoy a sophisticated hotel experience, high-energy casino, celebrity-chef restaurants, world-class entertainment, nightlife, destination spa, upscale retail and curated art, complemented by incredible panoramas of D.C., Maryland and Virginia,” Bill Boasberg, the resort’s general manager, said in prepared remarks.

According to The Washington Post, the resort is expected to attract 20,000 visitors on a daily basis. Nightly room rates at the MGM National Harbor start at $399 and suite rates begin at $599.
