Construction has started on the 10-story, 337-key Marriott CityPlace Hotel in the Springwoods Village community in Spring, Texas. Woodbine Development Corp. in partnership with CDC Houston and USAA Real Estate Co. announced the project, anticipating that the property will open in November 2018.

In addition to the usual Marriott signature elements, such as MClub Lounge, Great Rooms, Great Room Bar and Grab N Go, the hotel will include a three-meal-a-day restaurant, tech lounge, pool, pool bar and outdoor patio. Moreover, the hotel will feature 33,000 square feet of indoor/outdoor function space, including a ballroom, a junior ballroom, five meeting rooms, a boardroom, a pool bar event space and an outdoor event area. The interiors will feature a mix of stone, tile, wood, metal and textured fabrics in natural tones, paired with upscale furnishings, fixtures and finishes.

Woodbine is the developer and asset manager for the hotel. Gensler is the architect and designer, while Austin Commercial is the general contractor. Financing is being provided through a partnership between Commerce Bank and Frost Bank.

Marriott CityPlace at Springwoods Village is the third hotel in our community, reflecting our strategy of providing a range of hotels at different price points and with different levels of service, all within walking distance to work, dining, retail and recreation facilities. The groundbreaking, combined with the recent announcement of ABS headquarters and HP campus moving to Springwoods Village, provides an exciting and continued momentum for us,” Keith Simon, executive vice president of CDC Houston, said in prepared remarks.

The new hotel anchors the eastern end of CityPlace, a 60-acre, fully-integrated, mixed-use district in Springwoods Village, facing CityPlace Park and next to the public CityPlace Plaza. The LEED-pursuing property will be the first full-service hotel within the 2,000-acre master-planned community.

Springwoods Village is a $10 billion sustainable, master-planned community south of the Woodlands and 20 miles north of downtown Houston. City Place is being constructed by the master-development venture comprising Patrinely Group, USAA Real Estate Co. and CDC Houston, and once complete, will offer 4.4 million square feet of office and retail space. It also encompasses more than 290 acres of parks and natural corridors that connect to a network of trails.
