Skanska Breaks Ground on $343M NJ Hospital

Skanska USA has broken ground on its second health care project in the Delaware Valley in the past year, an Inspira Health Network hospital building in Mullica Hill, N.J. Designed by Array Architects and engineered by Leach Wallace Associates Construction, the hospital is slated for completion by December 2019.

Inspira acquired 100 acres from Rowan University in 2016 for the new medical center. Located near Rowan University’s South Jersey Technology Park, the main tower will house operating rooms, an emergency department, imaging suites and administrative, dining and support services. The five-story 204-bed hospital building will also include a new central utility plant, which will provide electrical power, heating and hot and chilled water to the new facility.

This will be Skanska USA’s largest Integrated Project Delivery project to date in North America, which harnesses the input of all stakeholders, the client, designer and the builder, to streamline the execution of the project. The 467,000-square-foot project will create around 400 local full-time jobs and involves a mix of demolition, remediation, renovations, finish upgrades and new construction estimated at $343.1 million by Array Architects.

Skanska began construction on the Women and Children’s Health Building for Christiana Care Health System in Newark, Del. in 2016.
