Amazon Web Services Inc., the cloud services division of Amazon.com Inc., will expand its footprint in Fairfax County with a new corporate campus at One Dulles Tower in Herndon, Va. The expansion will yield the state up to 1,500 jobs.
Financing for new jobs
The Virginia Economic Development Partnership teamed up with the General Assembly’s Major Employment and Investment (MEI) Commission to secure the project. Through a custom performance state grant approved by the governor and the MEI Commission, AWS will receive $7,000 per net new job created, after having 600 hires completed. Virginia competed against Texas and Washington state for the project and AWS selected Fairfax County because of its business state-of-the-art infrastructure, highly skilled well-educated workforce and access to global markets through Washington Dulles International Airport.
