Income vs. total return across the U.K., Ireland and Canada; year-over-year
Over the course of 2016, most global real estate markets experienced a slowdown in total return performance. The UK was particularly hard hit by capital markets in the aftermath of the Brexit vote. To date in 2017 though, we have seen mixed performance. In some markets, like Canada, performance has held reasonably steady. In Ireland, the slowdown has continued though total returns over the year to September were slightly higher than in the year to June. The UK market has recorded a strong turnaround with total returns in the year to September jumping to 9.5 percent, more than double what they were six months prior.
