KAI Design & Build has completed extensive engineering work at The LINC Recreation & Wellness Center in Jefferson City, Mo. The $11 million facility, which officially opened earlier this year, is a collaboration between Lincoln University and the City of Jefferson’s Parks, Recreation and Forestry department.

Located at 1299 Lafayette St., the LEED certified property features 79,808 square feet, spread across three stories. The main floor of the building includes four gymnasiums, in addition to offices for the Parks, Recreation and Forestry department. The upper floor includes a fully equipped fitness center, more than 2,000 square feet of meeting rooms and classrooms, a walking track and an office for the president of Lincoln University. The lower level of the building is fully occupied by the athletic department of the university. Both the city and the university are jointly managing the property.

The Architect’s Alliance designed the property, and SIRCAL Contracting provided general contractor services. Both companies are based in the Jefferson City area.

Two users, two systems

KAI’s engineering department conducted extensive work in setting up the facility’s mechanical, electrical, plumbing and fire protection systems. Two separate data networks had to be installed in the facility, due to security and privacy concerns between the two occupants of the property over using a single shared network. In common areas of the building, physical connections to the network are color-coded so users can select the appropriate network to connect to.

KAI, based in St. Louis, recently added a new chief integration officer to its headquarters staff.
