On a month-over-month basis, new orders decreased for most industries in October 2017, with Computers and Electronic Products posting the most substantial decline (18.4 percent decrease).

New orders for all manufacturing industries increased on a year-over-year basis by 5.2 percent or approximately $24 billion in October 2017. The most significant change came from the Machinery segment, which increased by 13 percent compared to October 2016, and gained 2.9 percent over September 2017. New orders increased for almost every remaining industry segment, the only exception coming from Transportation Equipment, which dropped by 7.6 percent.

Primary Metals increased by 6.7 percent month-over-month, followed by Machinery (2.9 percent), Nondurable Goods Industries (2.1 percent) and Furniture and Related Products (2.0 percent).
