Swedish retailer IKEA has selected Tribble & Stephens to manage construction at its upcoming store in Live Oak, Texas. The building is expected to break ground in the spring of 2018 with the store opening for business in summer 2019. Tribble & Stephens has worked with IKEA to build stores in the past, including two of the company’s other Texas locations.

The future IKEA Live Oak store will contain 289,000 square feet of space and sit atop 31 acres at the southwest corner of Interstate 35 and Loop 1604, approximately 15 miles from San Antonio’s city center. The company is looking into options to generate power on-site, something 90 percent of IKEA stores already do nationwide.

“With contractors on board, plans can proceed towards opening the future IKEA Live Oak store,” said Lars Petersson, president of IKEA U.S., in a prepared statement. “This San Antonio-area store will provide a more convenient IKEA shopping experience for current and potential customers throughout South Texas who may live too far from IKEA Houston and IKEA Round Rock.”

Other companies involved in the development of the store include Segovia Retail Group who assisted with site selection, Stantec for civil engineering, architecture firm WD Partners, Raba Kistner Consultants for geotechnical engineering, Code Consultants for fire alarm systems and developer services company GreenbergFarrow.

IKEA continues its nationwide expansion, with a number of stores being developed including Milwaukee and Seattle.
