H5 Expands in WA, Acquires 240 KSF Data Center

H5 Data Centers has expanded its footprint with the acquisition of a purpose-built data center in Quincy, Wash. The 240,000-square-foot facility is the 12^th that the company will operate in the U.S. H5 acquired the data center from Intuit Inc. 

The Quincy facility is situated on a 63-acre lot and is equipped for high-density deployments of up to 500 Watts per square foot. The site has access to 100 percent renewable power provided by Grant County Public Utility District, via a hydroelectric plant. The Tier III design enables a 2N Uninterruptible Power Supply distribution and an N+1 cooling tower and chiller plant. Since its construction, the building maintains a track record of 100 percent uptime. H5 plans to expand the data center and bring it up to a maximum of 40 megawatts of critical IT power upon full build-out.

H5 Data Centers’ latest acquisition benefits from the state of Washington’s low power cost, at around $0.03 per kWh. Additionally, the facility qualifies for the state’s sales and use tax abatement for power infrastructure and server equipment. According to DatacenterDynamics, to qualify, a data center must cover at least 100,000 square feet and employ at least 35 people with a salary at 150 percent of the locality’s per capita income. Both operators and tenants of the data center can benefit from tax abatement.
