EdgeConneX Adds 2nd Data Center in Atlanta

EdgeConneX has started work on a second Edge Data Center (EDC) in Atlanta. The upcoming facility will complement the existing capacity with an additional 15 megawatts, eventually reaching 21 MW upon full build-out. ATL02, the new data center, will connect via dark fiber to the company’s other Atlanta facility. The company tapped Megaport, as it did in its recent 21 MW Denver data center expansion, to provide network deployment services.

The upcoming ATL02 will support up to five data halls. EdgeConneX’s typical EDC facilities comprise between 5,000 and 10,000 square feet of raised floor space. Power density can reach up to 300 watts per square foot, delivered via feeds with redundant power distribution units. The campus will support tenants’ needs for cloud, content, network and IoT services. The carrier-neutral EDC’s network providers include CenturyLink, Cogent, Comcast, Level 3, Pilot Fiber, Southern Telecom, Crowne Castle, Windstream and Zayo, among others.
