NV Energy has announced the addition of nearly 1,200 megawatts of new solar photovoltaic generation to be built in the state, along with 590 megawatts of battery storage. The renewable energy will come from three projects that will be developed in Clark County, Nev., which await approval from the Public Utilities Commission of Nevada as part of its integrated resource plan filing.

The projects will each have their own related battery storage system and will create more than 3,000 temporary jobs. All three facilities are expected to be completed and begin commercial operation by the end of 2023.

Project Breakdown

Arrow Canyon Solar will materialize into a 200-megawatt solar photovoltaic project with a 75-megawatt, five-hour battery storage system. The development will be located 20 miles northeast of Las Vegas on the Moapa Band of Paiutes Indian Reservation. EDF Renewables North America will develop the project, which estimates that the project will create between 250 to 600 temporary construction jobs.

Arrow Canyon Solar is anticipated to meet the consumption of up to 64,000 average Nevada households. This is the equivalent of avoiding more than 464,000 metric tons of carbon dioxide emissions annually, which represents the greenhouse emissions from 98,000 passenger vehicles driven over the course of one year.

Southern Bighorn Solar & Storage Center will have a generating capacity of 300 megawatts and will include a 135-megawatt, four-hour Li-Ion battery storage system. This will be located 30 miles north of Las Vegas, also on the Moapa Band of Paiutes Indian Reservation. The development will be built by 8minute Solar Energy.

Gemini Solar + Battery Storage Project will generate 690 megawatts of solar energy and will be coupled with a 380-megawatt AC battery storage system. The facility will be located 25 miles northeast of Las Vegas on approximately 7,100 acres of federally owned land under the management of the Bureau of Land Management. Quinbrook Infrastructure Partners in collaboration with Arevia Power will develop and manage the project.
