Amazon Inks Full-Building Lease at Austin Tech Hub
The project will accommodate the company's plan to create more than 2,000 jobs in the city.
Amazon plans to add 2,000 new jobs at its Austin Tech Hub in Austin, Texas, and has leased an entire 18-story, 332,865-square-foot Class A office building being developed by Atlanta-based Cousins Properties within The Domain submarket.
The e-commerce giant is slated to move into the new space at Domain 9, located at 2904 Palm Way, in three phases beginning in early 2024. Amazon stated the new roles will support teams growing in Operations Technology, Amazon Retail, Amazon Business and Amazon Web Services. Positions to be filled include senior data engineers, senior technical program managers, user experience designers and financial analysts.

Amazon currently has more than 3,000 tech and corporate employees working at its Austin Tech Hub. This latest investment will add to Amazon’s three existing locations at The Domain, considered Austin’s second downtown.
In September 2019, Amazon expanded an existing lease at Cousin’s Domain 10 office tower, bringing its total space at the 15-story, 300,000-square-foot building to 249,000 square feet. Amazon also leases part of Domain 8 and recently took more than 114,000 square feet at Domain 2 in a sublease with Vrbo, according to the Austin Business Journal. Amazon said The Domain provides its employees access to retail, restaurants and entertainment.
Doug Gray, site lead for Amazon’s Austin Tech Hub, said in a prepared statement the company’s continued investment in Austin is a testament to the talent and amenities the Texas city has to offer.
The growth in Austin is part of Amazon’s multi-city expansion across the U.S. The company plans to create 3,000 jobs within the next few years in Chicago and Phoenix as well as Austin. In the last 18 months, Amazon announced expansion plans in Houston, where it is adding 150 new jobs, and Dallas, where it will create 600 new jobs.
A Growing Domain
Colin Connolly, president & CEO of Cousins Properties, said in a prepared statement that demand for office space in The Domain is as strong as it has ever been. With the addition of Domain 9, Connolly said the company’s 2.5 million square-foot portfolio at The Domain is 99.7 percent leased. He said Cousins has additional sites that can accommodate at least another 1.5 million square feet of new development in the Domain submarket. Connelly noted the company has been working on plans for Domain Central, located in the core of the submarket that will be a multi-phased project and the next step of growth in The Domain.
