Anovion Technologies has announced its plans for a 1.5 million-square-foot manufacturing facility in Bainbridge, Ga. The $800 million investment will be one of the biggest industrial developments in North America and will generate more than 400 jobs in Decatur County.

The new facility will house synthetic graphite anode material production, scheduled to start in late 2025. The project is Anovion Technologies’ first large-scale manufacturing development and will be located in Downrange Industrial Park, a more than 750-acre master-planned industrial campus.

A growing EV hub

Graphite is by far the largest component by volume and mass in electric vehicle batteries. Georgia became a hub for the electric mobility industry in the past years, with some 40 EV-related projects announced since 2020, generating more than $21.9 billion in investments and 28,000 new jobs.

As the country’s current administration is prioritizing climate-friendly technology and offers government incentives to EV companies, the competition in this industry is growing, according to CommercialEdge data. Recent developments in the electric vehicle industry include LG Energy Solution’s $5.5. billion project in suburban Phoenix. The Seoul-based company plans to build two manufacturing facilities for cylindrical battery manufacturing. The project, expected to break ground in 2023, is one of the largest such investments in North America.
