Almac Group Expands in Montgomery County
Life sciences company Almac Group is growing its operations in southeastern Pennsylvania by expanding its headquarters and leasing a new office space.

Philadelphia—Almac Group Inc., a global contract pharmaceutical development and manufacturing organization, is planning to expand operations at its existing 240,000-square-foot U.S. headquarters in Souderton, while doubling its physical presence in Lansdale by leasing a 26,000-square-foot office space.

Under the company’s plan, about 312 jobs will be created over the next three years across a wide range of functions, expanding the group’s capabilities in the sciences, clinical services, clinical technologies and pharma services businesses. The overall investment is expected to exceed $24.4 million.
Almac Group has received a funding proposal from the Pennsylvania Department of Community and Economic Development, which involves an approximately $1.5 million grant provided through the state’s Pennsylvania First Program. The funding will be used for the acquisition of new machine lines, computer equipment, software and an expanded cold storage area.
“In 2007, Almac Group invested $100 million, retained 495 jobs and created another 264 jobs, when it successfully established its U.S. headquarters in Pennsylvania,” Tom Wolf, Governor of Pennsylvania, said in prepared remarks. “Since then, we’ve seen Almac Group’s significant contributions to the economic vitality of the region as a major player in southeastern Pennsylvania’s strong bio-pharma industry, and we look forward to its continued success as it once again chooses Pennsylvania for its operations expansion.”
“Due to significant industry demand for our services, it is essential we build capacity and increase headcount to ensure we continue to compete at a global level,” added Almac Group CEO Alan Armstrong. “This investment signifies our confidence in the pool of talent and skills right on our doorstep.”
The company has also announced expansion plans across Europe, including an additional laboratory and office facility at its global headquarters in Craigavon, Northern Ireland, and the development of the Arran Chemical Co. facility in Athlone, Ireland, which Almac acquired last year.
The Almac Group employs more than 4,600 people globally and is set to reach 5,000 employees by the end of 2017.
