Amazon has opened a 1 million square-foot fulfillment center in Montgomery, N.Y., which employs 800 workers. The e-commerce giant also signed a string of new leases across the region.

The fresh commitments include a fulfillment center in Gates, N.Y, a sortation facility in Oregon, N.Y., and a last-mile delivery station in Hawthorne, N.Y. The online retailer already operates a cluster of sites in Greece, N.Y, which provide end-to-end services throughout metro Rochester.

The Montgomery facility opened shortly following Amazon’s announcement earlier this month detailing the company’s plans to open more than 100 buildings nationwide this month. Since the beginning of the year, the company has launched more than 250 new fulfillment centers and similar facilities nationwide. Within the state, Amazon intends to hire more than 3,700 employees as part of its expansion efforts.

According to Times Herald-Record, the 190-acre Montgomery property sits at the intersection of routes 17K and 747, just off Interstate 84 and near New York Stewart International Airport. CommercialEdge data shows that Bluewater Property Group is the developer of the project, which broke ground in early 2020.

In March, Bluewater gained approval for another Amazon distribution facility in East Fishkill, N.Y., according to Mid-Hudson News. The developer plans to raze a building previously occupied by IBM to make way for the 630,000-square-foot industrial property.
