Amazon’s Biggest Wind Farm Up and Running
The Texas facility, which will generate 1 million-megawatt hours of wind energy annually, is one of the 18 projects the company has launched across the country.

Amazon’s largest wind farm has begun operations. Amazon Wind Farm Texas adds more than 1 million-megawatt hours of clean energy to the grid on a yearly basis. The retailer has already launched 18 wind and solar projects across the U.S., while another 35 are underway. Combined, the facilities will generate sufficient clean energy to power more than 330,000 homes annually, while also opening hundreds of jobs and providing tens of millions of dollars of investment in local communities across the nation.
The 253-megawatt Amazon Wind Farm Texas comprises more than 100 turbines—each over 300 feet tall with a rotor diameter more than twice the wingspan of a Boeing 787. The wind farm is built, owned and operated by Lincoln Clean Energy, an I Squared Capital portfolio company focusing on energy, utilities and transport in North America, Europe and select high growth economies.
Funding STEM
Amazon, LCE and local officials and residents participated at the grand opening of the wind farm, and Amazon is donating $50,000 to the Snyder Education Foundation to provide students and teachers with STEM learning opportunities.
“Investing in renewable energy is a win-win-win-win—it’s right for our customers, our communities, our business, and our planet,” Kara Hurst, Amazon’s worldwide director of sustainability, said in prepared remarks. “We now have 18 wind and solar projects across the U.S. with more than 35 projects to come. These are important steps toward reaching our long-term goal to power our global infrastructure using 100 percent renewable energy.”
