ATXI Completes 1st Phase of Mark Twain Transmission Project
Ameren estimates that its total investment in the project—a 96-mile, 345,000-volt transmission line and substation—will reach $250 million.

Ameren Transmission Co. of Illinois, a wholly owned subsidiary of Ameren Corp., has energized the Zachary Substation and approximately 32 miles of transmission line from Kirksville, Mo., to the Iowa border. The segment is part of the Mark Twain Transmission Project, a 96-mile, 345,000-volt transmission line and substation in northeast Missouri.
The foundation and line construction crews will start building the line section between Palmyra and Kirksville, which is slated for completion later this year. Once finalized, the project will provide local and regional benefits, including improved energy-grid reliability, increased transmission capacity and greater access to renewable sources such as wind.
Ameren estimates to invest $250 million in the Mark Twain project. It is part of a coordinated, multi-state group of transmission developments known as Multi-Value Projects, aiming to improve and strengthen the regional energy grid. There are three Multi-Value Projects in ATXI’s portfolio, the first of which was completed in February 2018. The anticipated in-service date for the entire Mark Twain project is December 2019.
