Bain Capital Leases 208,000 SF at Boston’s John Hancock Tower

Private investment firm Bain Capital has signed a 15-year lease spanning at least seven contiguous floors of the John Hancock Tower, Boston’s tallest office tower. The lease initially comprises 208,000 square feet with the option to expand up to 270,000 square feet prior to occupancy, and brings the tower’s occupancy to 95 percent.

Bain will officially relocate to its new quarters in fall 2011.

Cushman & Wakefield Inc. represented both tenant and landlord, with Gil Dailey, Dave Martel and Rob Griffin representing Bain and Bill Anderson representing the landlord.

An iconic figure in the Boston skyline, the John Hancock Tower is a Class A building located in the Back Bay district. It is nearly 1.8 million square feeet and 62 stories high, making it the tallest building in New England. It was designed by noted architect Henry Cobb and completed in 1976. It was also announced Wednesday that the tower has been awarded a LEED Gold Existing certification, which makes it New England’s largest green building as well.
