Blackstone Makes Top Addition in Europe

Marc Bolland, former executive at Marks & Spencer and Heineken, will lead the powerhouse’s European portfolio operations.

LondonBlackstone recently announced the naming of Marc Bolland as head of European portfolio operations for its private equity business.

The Dutch retail veteran boasts an impressive track record, having served as CEO for British multinational retailer Marks & Spencer, chief executive of Morrisons—United Kingdom’s fourth largest retail chain­­—and COO of beer giant Heineken. Bolland’s position with Blackstone will be effective September 19.

Bolland started with Heineken in the Netherlands in 1987. Prior to being COO, he successively covered several management positions, including managing director of Heineken Export Group Worldwide and managing director of Heineken Slovenia. He joined Morrisons in 2006, prior to his CEO position with Marks & Spencer, which he occupied between May 2010 and April 2016. Recently, Bolland was also named non-executive director on the board of the International Airlines Group.

“He (Bolland) has had an outstanding career leading and developing major international businesses, and I am sure he will add great value to our current and future portfolio businesses,” said Joseph Baratta, global head of private equity at Blackstone, in a prepared statement.
