Reykjavik, Iceland—Hilton recently announced the opening of Canopy Reykjavik City Centre, the lifestyle brand’s first property to open its doors to guests. The 112-key establishment is operated by Icelandair Hotels, an Icelandair Group subsidiary.
Announced in 2014, the Canopy by Hilton flag has more than a dozen properties in development, including in locations such as: the Portland Pearl District; Ithaca, N.Y.; West Palm Beach, Fla.; Washington, D.C.; Charlotte, N.C.; New Orleans; Baltimore; Chicago; Dallas; and the brand’s second international presence, Canopy by Hilton London City.
Unveiled in mid-2015, Canopy Reykjavik is situated at the corner of Smiðjustígur and Hverfisgata streets, at the edge of downtown, close to the city’s harbor and minutes from the Reykjavik Airport. The hotel’s design blends local influences and natural materials to pinpoint Canopy’s distinctive feature: a fine touch of local culture.
“Reykjavik is unlike any other city on Earth. Its rich heritage and natural beauty perfectly align with the ethos of the Canopy by Hilton brand,” said Gary Steffen, global head of Canopy by Hilton, in prepared remarks.
Apart from local touches such as Omnom chocolate and lava-filtered water, guests will be able to enjoy the “Icelandic throughout with a cosmopolitan twist” Geiri Smart restaurant, two complimentary choices of breakfast, complimentary wine and beer tastings, and little treats at the delicatessen or coffee shop. The property’s amenities also include a 24-hour fitness center, meeting space for up to 50 people, complimentary bicycles and babysitting service.
