CBRE, SemaConnect Finalize Largest EV Installation in the US

Electrify America deployed Level Two charging solutions to workplace and apartment buildings, as well as cloud-based management software and network technology.

CBRE and SemaConnect, have completed the largest installation of electric vehicle charging stations in the country. The two companies installed 1,100 EV charging stations in 15 major U.S. metros, with the equipment provided by Reston, Virginia-based Electrify America.

SemaConnect and CBRE handled program planning, site selection and preparation, procurement, landlord approvals, permitting, installation, activation and closeout at 215 workplace and apartment buildings across 15 metros in 11 states and Washington, D.C.

Specifically, the metros that benefitted from the EV upgrade are Boston; Chicago; Denver; Fresno, Calif.; Houston; Los Angeles; Miami; New York/ New Jersey; Philadelphia; Portland, Ore.; San Diego; San Francisco; San Jose, Calif.; Seattle and Washington, D.C. In addition to the smart EV charging equipment, SemaConnect’s contract with Electrify America includes cloud-based management software and network technology that enables payment, control over the usage of the stations, status check on a map, as well as monitoring, updating and customer service.

Charged up future

Electrify America has planned a $2 billion investment over 10 years in zero-emission vehicle infrastructure, education and access, including the purchase and installation and maintenance of charging stations for the following 10 years. Of this amount, $800 million is slated for California, one of the largest ZEV markets in the world. The company deployed Level Two charging solutions to workplace and apartment buildings at no cost for tenants and residents and in addition, the properties will own the EV charging stations.

The EV market is slowly gaining traction in the U.S. According to BloombergNEF’s 2019 Electrical Vehicle Outlook, car sales in the country rose 86 percent during the 2017-2018 period. By 2040, the report’s authors anticipate that 57 percent of all passenger vehicle sales and more than 30 percent of the global passenger vehicle fleet will be electric.
