Charlotte Iconic Hotel to Embark on $26M Remake
The metamorphosis of the 374-key Omni Hotel in the heart of the metro’s financial district will revolve around Charlotte’s history with precious metals.

Omni Charlotte Hotel recently announced its plans to undergo a $26 million revamp that will completely reimagine the building. The transformation will take inspiration from the discovery of the 17-pound gold nugget in 1799 and the city’s reputation as a banking center. Moncur Design Associates Inc. and CT + C Design Studio are involved in the Uptown hotel’s renovation.
Located on the corner of South College and East Trade streets, the hotel is an iconic property situated less than a mile away from the Bank of America Stadium and the NASCAR Hall of Fame. Exterior renovations include opening up the front wall facing Trade Street to allow more natural light to reach the property. The facade will feature a glass exterior, as well as linear panels on the ceiling with a reflective metal wall serving as the focal point. The lobby will include new flooring, an expansion of the Trade Restaurant & Bar with a new opening to the lobby and new furniture. Located on the 14th floor, the club lounge will still offer views of the Charlotte skyline.
“The property will feature a sleek new exterior, modern lobby experience, cosmopolitan guest rooms and suites, and an exclusive rooftop pool deck and bar space that will soon become the city’s go-to urban oasis,” said Omni Charlotte Hotel General Manager David Palumbo in a prepared statement.
Anchoring the multimillion dollar hotel transformation is the complete redesign of the rooftop pool deck, which will add nearly 3,000 square feet of space, including a new bar and grill and 22-foot-wide television screens for sports games. All spaces will be refreshed with custom gold and silver-tone fabrics and finishes. Bathrooms will also receive complete redesign with new vanities and showers.
Last year, HFF secured $58.8 million in construction financing for Omni’s new 16-story hotel in Atlanta.
