Christiana Care Enlists Skanska for $178M Expansion
The two companies are teaming up again for the development of the new Women and Children’s Health Building in Newark, Del.

Newark, Del.—Skanska recently announced that it will build the new Women and Children’s Health Building for Christiana Care Health System in Delaware. The developer has been awarded the contract worth roughly $178 million by Christiana Care Health System, a network of private, non-profit hospitals providing healthcare services to Delaware and neighboring areas.
Wilmington Hospital
Set to be completed by January 2020, the project is already underway and calls for the construction of a brand new eight-story expansion building. The new facility will total roughly 387,000 square feet of space and will provide the hospital with a replacement neonatal intensive care unit, while also providing relief by expanding outpatient units, as well as additional lab, pharmacy, and dietary clinical and logistical support services. Skanska is also working on the expansion of a four-level parking garage catering to patients and visitors, having previously been awarded the contract for that project.
Skanska and Christiana Care Health System have previously worked on other major healthcare development projects. The developer completed the expansion of the Wilmington Hospital at 501 W. 14th St., in 2015. Wilmington Hospital is the oldest facility in the health system’s network.
