Construction Begins on Miami’s Wynwood Walk

Thor’s mixed-use project will feature a mix of retail and restaurant space with a green rooftop, paseo and a landscaped terrace with outdoor seating.

Thor Equities has begun construction on Wynwood Walk, a mixed-use development totaling approximately 63,000 square feet in Miami’s Wynwood Art District. The Wynwood Design Review Committee granted approval for the project earlier this year, in May.

Located at 2800 NW 2nd Ave., the corner site spans an entire block from NW 29th Street to NW 28th Street near Wynwood’s northern entrance. The development will encompass retail and restaurant space, as well as a green rooftop and a paseo. Wynwood Walk will feature 300 feet of retail frontage on NW 2nd Avenue and a landscaped terrace with outdoor seating.

Thor Equities selected Oppenheim Architecture to design the project. Wynwood Walk will rise in the proximity of retailers including Pucci, Aesop, Warby Parker, Shinola, Scotch & Soda and Ducati. According to public records, the real estate company acquired the entire block for $41.5 million in September 2015.

“We are excited to begin construction on this premier development situated in the heart of the Wynwood Art District, which continues to draw hundreds of thousands of visitors each year to its numerous galleries, open-air street art installations, retail stores, bars and restaurants,” said Joseph Sitt, CEO of Thor Equities, in prepared remarks.

Located to the northwest of downtown Miami, Wynwood is undergoing a transformation from a district of old warehouses and empty lots into a destination for art, fashion, retail and restaurants. Earlier this year, Goldman Properties landed financing for the development of Wynwood Garage, a mixed-use project on Third Avenue, between NW 26th and 27th streets. It will be Wynwood’s first and only structured parking garage.
