With the end of 2018 almost upon us, it is worth evaluating how national markets have performed so far this year. This chart compares the return performance of seven countries where MSCI has quarterly property indexes over the 12-months to end September. Of the seven markets, the Netherlands has recorded the highest total return of 15.1 percent and Ireland has recorded the lowest at 6.3 percent. The momentum contrast between these two countries is also stark with Dutch returns up 280 basis points on the same period one year prior, and Irish returns down 430 basis points. Of the other five markets, return levels and momentum were varied.
