Washington—Donohoe Construction Co. topped out on an 11-story Homewood Suites by Hilton in Arlington, Va., a 168-key property. Privately owned firm B.F. Saul Co. developed the property. The general contractor expects the project to reach substantial completion in early 2018.
The Arlington County Board approved the project in mid-2013. The Art Deco-style property broke ground in June 2016 and is being built on the site of the old Colony House furniture store. The former building, which was constructed in 1957, has been demolished to make way for the 129,182-square-foot property. BB&T provided financing and Gordon & Greenberg Architects designed the project, which is targeted to achieve LEED Gold certification. The developer’s deal with the local board includes a $510,000 contribution towards affordable housing, as well as a $75,000 public art contribution.
Located at 1900 N. Quinn St., in Rosslyn, the all-suite property is situated just south of Lee Highway/Interstate 66, offering quick access to central Washington, D.C., and Northern Virginia. The Homewood Suites hotel is within a 15-minute ride of most points of interest in the area, including the Pentagon, the National Mall, Union Station, Downtown D.C., Ronald Reagan National Airport and Nationals Park. At the same time, the property is located within walking distance of two metro stations.
The hotel will feature suites with fully equipped kitchens, as well as separate areas for living and sleeping. Amenities include two levels of above-grade parking offering 100 spots, two patios with fireplaces and outdoor grills, and a 1,000-square-foot meeting room, as well as a dining area and lobby bar.
