Digital Realty’s International Growth Continues

Digital Realty has opened KIX11, the second data center on its campus in Osaka, anchored by a multi-megawatt, multi-year agreement with a global cloud service provider. KIX11 will be connected via dark fiber to subsequent phases of the Digital Osaka Connected Campus, a planned giant facility with a total IT load capacity of more than 100 megawatts, currently under development.

Located in Minou, roughly 12 miles west of KIX10 and less than 12 miles north of downtown Osaka, KIX11 is a carrier-neutral facility with multiple carriers on site, providing open access to the Digital Realty Ecosystem. The four-story data center, built according to Secured by Design principles, is reinforced with seismic isolation systems, spans over more than 247,000 square feet and will deliver up to 28 megawatts of total IT capacity. KIX11 is also capable of supporting an average power supply of 9 kW/rack, caging and private suite configurations. The facility is Uptime Institute Tier 3-certified.

According to Digital Realty, IT outsourcing is still in the very early stages in Japan. The company now operates four national data centers—two in the Tokyo and two in the Osaka metro areas—and has acquired a 5-acre land parcel in Tokyo area to develop a 36-megawatt data center by 2021.
