Downtown Palm Springs Springs Up in the Fall

Grit Development’s downtown Palm Springs revitalization project will open in mid-November after a decade of planning. The four-phase mixed-use development kicks off this fall with the grand opening of a 153-key hotel, eight restaurants, 80,000 square feet of retail and 30,000 square feet of office. ACRM Architects is the architect of record for all of the vertical construction in the development.

Chain furniture retailer West Elm was the first retailer to open in 2016 as part of the project, followed by Blaze Pizza at the end of March earlier this year. Dozens of tenants will open this summer, with the Kimpton Rowan Hotel officially opening in September. The hotel features the city’s first and only rooftop bar and pool. New tenants include clothing brands such as H&M, Free People, francesca’s, cosmetics retailer Kiehl’s and several dining destinations such as Tommy Bahama Restaurant and Bar, Stout Burgers and Beers, and Il corso.

“Once complete, this project will put Palm Springs back on the map as a top destination. Visitors can enjoy staying at luxurious accommodations, shopping eclectic brands and dining at incredible restaurants – all within walking distance and surrounded by beautiful scenery and views few can match,” Grit Development, formerly Wessman Development, President Michael Braun said in prepared remarks.

The rollout of the project will be carried out in four phases:

• Phase 1: 275,000 square feet of commercial and multifamily, including Rowan Hotel, retail, restaurants and office
• Phase 2: 200,000 square feet of commercial and multifamily, including a grocery Store
• Phase 3: 110,000 square feet of commercial and multifamily, including a Virgin Hotel
• Phase 4: 110,000 square feet of redevelopment of town and country, to include additional retail and restaurant
