EdgeConneX Furthers International Expansion

Inside an EdgeConneX Edge Data Center

EdgeConneX is planning their expansion in the growing Canadian market with a new data center, which will be initially deployed with 6MW in Q2 of 2018.

EdgeConneX is a Virginia-based telecommunications company, specializing in edge computing, data centers and cell backhaul, among others. Its 40th “Edge Data Center”, or EDC, will be built in Toronto, with delivery expected in the second quarter of 2018. The multi-tenant facility will offer high-density power, along with N+1 design for redundancy purposes.

With increased demand in data delivery and connectivity, the Greater Toronto and Montreal markets are seeing some new players join the data center boom. According to the latest JLL Data Center Outlook, the Canadian market has seen 34.7 MW of absorption in the first half of this year, almost 10MW more than in 2016.

Global Connectivity

Initially, the data center will be deployed with 6MW and will include networks, IXP’s, IP providers, cloud-on ramps, gaming platforms, IoT platforms and content delivery networks, in order to improve connectivity and expedite end-user reach. A campus is also planned further down the road for the Toronto location.

“In collaboration with our customers, EdgeConneX is accelerating its expansion globally and entering new markets such as Toronto to facilitate the enablement of their cloud, content, network or other services ever closer to their end-users,” said Clint Heiden, chief commercial officer for EdgeConneX, in a prepared statement.

EdgeConneX’s 100+ MW facilities are located around the globe in dense telecom markets such as Amsterdam, Atlanta, Chicago, Dublin, Miami, Phoenix, and others.
