1st Phase of $58M Marriott Restoration in Puerto Rico Complete

JLL’s project and development services division finished the first leg of renovations to the Marriott San Juan Stellaris, which was significantly damaged during Hurricane Maria in 2017.

JLL’s project and development services division announced that the team has completed the first phase of renovations to the Marriott San Juan Stellaris in San Juan, Puerto Rico. The resort is undergoing a restoration following significant damage it sustained during Hurricane Maria in 2017.

The first phase of renovations to the 454,200-square-foot hotel includes a complete remodel of 123 cabana rooms, reconstruction of the in-house restaurant and enhancements to the pool deck and ballroom space.

This year, JLL’s team will focus on managing the restoration of the remaining 405 keys, eventually bringing the property to a total of 528 renovated keys in phase two. Hospitality developer Interlink is serving as the contractor during the renovation period, alongside V Architecture, a Puerto Rico-based firm.

“We’re fortunate to have a highly skilled team equipped to implement effective hurricane restoration strategies,” said Schrope, whose team has managed restoration projects in Key Largo, Duck Key and Miami, Fla., in prepared remarks. “With Marriott San Juan Stellaris’ first phase now complete, our team is honored to have the opportunity to play a role in rebuilding the future of Puerto Rico.”

Since Hurricane Maria struck the island in 2017, Puerto Rico has sought to have 100 percent renewable energy by 2050.
