Key International has broken ground on a 171-key AC Hotel by Marriott in Fort Lauderdale Beach, Fla. The project will be developed on three adjacent parcels the partnership acquired for $9.6 million in 2016, according to Broward County records.

Located at 3029 Alhambra St., the 10-story hotel is within walking distance of the beach, less than 8 miles from Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport and adjacent to Florida State Road A1A. According to a 2018 study from the Greater Fort Lauderdale Convention & Visitors Bureau, the area has seen a 7.1 percent increase in direct travel spending in 2017, surpassing $7.6 billion.

AC Hotel by Marriott Fort Lauderdale Beach will feature a lounge, an open kitchen for culinary events, a library and 1,000 square feet of meeting space. The property will also include a resort-style pool with dining services and cabanas.

“The city’s tourism sector is robust, with new development in the hospitality, residential and retail sectors surrounding the property,” said Diego Ardid, co-president of Key International, in prepared remarks.

Last month, Economos Properties received $52.5 million in construction financing for a dual-branded Marriot project in Dania Beach, Fla.
