International: Georgia’s Tallest Residential Tower Rises on Black Sea Coast

Construction is currently underway on the highest residential tower in the country of Georgia.

Developed by locally based Tam Geo, the $80 million mixed-use Babillon Tower is rising in Batumi, a seaside resort city on the Black Sea coast and capital of Adjara, an autonomous republic in the country’s southwest region.

Upon completion, the 47-story skyscraper will feature 421 residential units, including lofts and penthouses, ranging in size from 345 square feet to more than 4000 square feet. Sales are already underway for the new residences, which have been priced between $90,000 and more than $280,000.

Plans also call for a two-story shopping mall, a casino, office space with city and sea views, restaurants, bars, and other recreation facilities.

The project will also feature an adjoining 17-story luxury hotel with more than 160 guestrooms. Amenities will include an outdoor swimming pool, spa, fitness center, personal care areas, a Turkish bath, beauty salon and dry cleaning services.

Construction on the shopping mall and hotel is scheduled for completion at the end of the year, while the rest of the project will be delivered in 2015.

Designed by Tago Architects, Babillon Tower will be more than 564 feet tall, the highest residential structure in the country. The height of the building will be surpassed only by the Batumi Technological University Tower at 656 feet.

The project broke ground in the spring of 2013.

Tam Geo’s partners in the Babillon Tower project include Turkish engineering firms Buro Statik, HB ELEKTRIK and Zetas, engineering consulting firm RWDI of Canada, construction company Bauer AG of Germany, Turkish project management firm ARED and web development company Omedia.
