GM to Open New Arlington Supplier Park Next Year

General Motors has announced plans to open a new 1.2 million-square-foot, two-building supplier park in Arlington, Texas. GM selected Bob Moore Construction as the general constructor for the new Arlington Automotive Logistics Center. The new development will replace a deteriorating shopping center. 

Improved cost-efficiency

Capable of housing up to 1,250 employees, the new park is expected to create more than 850 jobs and to be operational next year. Approximately 600 of the new manufacturing jobs will replace work previously done abroad. The new asset will feature state-of-the-art technologies to support the production and delivery of vehicle interiors. By placing the supplier park near the assembly plants, the company expects to significantly reduce transportation costs.

GM, which began local operations in 1954, currently employees more than 4,200 people at Arlington Assembly and produces about 1,245 vehicles every day.

“This new supplier park will create improved logistics efficiency and coordination, while also bringing significant employment opportunities to Arlington,” Vice President Steve Kiefer said in a prepared statement.

General Motors’ decision to open a new supplier station comes less than three months after the Arlington City Council decided to grant United Parcel Service Inc. tax incentives for its new Arlington regional hub, scheduled to open in 2019.
