New York—The Hershey Co. has revealed plans for an expansion of its flagship Hershey’s Chocolate World store in New York City. The new store will open in late 2017 at 20 Times Square, and will be three times larger than the brand’s current location, at Broadway and West 8th Street. Featuring entrances on both West 47th Street and 7th Avenue, the store will break ground early next year. The development team includes The Witkoff Group and FRCH Worldwide.
“We are thrilled to expand our Hershey’s Chocolate World presence in New York with a new, larger flagship store in the heart of Times Square, which is truly the crossroads of the world,” Suzanne Jones, vice president at The Hershey Experience, said in a prepared release. “Our vision is to create a destination where people of all ages can interact with our iconic brands and immerse themselves in all things chocolate.”
Hershey’s new store will be conveniently situated within the 39-story, mixed-use development dubbed 20 Times Square, which broke ground in 2013. Located at 701 Seventh Ave., the project is expected to include a 452-key luxury Marriott Edition hotel, expansive retail space and an 18,000-square-foot LED sign—one of the largest in the world.
The location draws more than 300,000 pedestrians each day, and is also set to house the NFL Times Square experience—a four-story, 40,000-square-foot permanent exhibit created by the NFL, Cirque du Soleil and the NFL Players Association, according to the Wall Street Journal.
Founded back in 1894 in Hershey, Pa., The Hershey Co. is the largest chocolate manufacturer in North America. The company operates eight Hershey’s Chocolate World locations: Hershey, Pa., New York, Chicago, Las Vegas, Niagara Falls, Dubai, Singapore and Shanghai.
