High-Efficiency Rooftop Unit Curbs Energy Use

Johnson Controls has introduced a series of high-efficiency rooftop commercial HVAC units that are designed to help customers curb energy consumption at an economical price point. The new Choice rooftop unit, which provides cooling in the 15- to 27.5-ton range, exceeds Department of Energy 2018 guidelines by up to 25 percent and surpasses the federal agency’s future 2023 part-load standards by nearly 10 percent.

The product, which is designed, engineered and assembled by Johnson Controls in Oklahoma, features an optional four-stage fan control to enhance efficiency. Units are designed to handle a variety of applications with multiple airflow strategies, including constant-volume, IntelliSpeed multi-speed fan control, variable air volume and continuous reset single zone control.

Additional features of the units include a wide range of gas heat options and outdoor air options, a footprint that is conceived to serve both new construction and most replacements, as well as a lightweight design that is up to 33 percent lighter than the company’s existing models. The product integrates with leading build controls systems, including Verasys.
