Honeywell has started commercial operations at its new manufacturing plant in Geismar, La.

Honeywell Performance Materials and Technologies has announced the completion of the already announced $300 million manufacturing facility in Geismar, La. The plant fabricates next-generation mobile air conditioning refrigerant that is currently used in 20 million vehicles.

The Geismar plant marks the fourth Honeywell site in Louisiana. Ever since, the company has invested heavily in the construction and supply of the facility, creating 3,311 construction jobs in Ascension Parish. At the new site, Honeywell will convert intellectual property developed in the firm’s research labs to an easily adopted marketplace solution for the automotive sector. Geismar has become one of the company’s most advanced production plants, serving as the showcase for some of it’s own process and automation technologies, including Honeywell Connected Plant.

In the past years, the company revamped projects in Baton Rouge, La., where it improved aerosols, insulation-blowing agents and appliance and stationary refrigerants. The firm also modernized catalysts that enhance performance in the oil refining industry in Shreveport, La. The company has created a central hub in Louisiana to manufacture its full portfolio of next-generation products.

The support of the State of Louisiana as well as local governments, was key in our decision to invest in the production of key new Solstice products at our Louisiana facilities. This has resulted in a central hub in Louisiana to manufacture our full portfolio of Solstice products. Honeywell has invested nearly $1 billion in R&D and manufacturing capacity to bring next-generation air conditioning, refrigeration, aerosol and foam insulation products to consumers around the world,” Rajeev Gautam, CEO of Honeywell, said in prepared remarks.
