Portland—Howard S. Wright, a Balfour Beatty company, has been named the contractor for BPM Real Estate Group’s Broadway Tower office and hotel project in downtown Portland.
The two companies previously teamed up on another Portland project—Pearl West, a nine-story, 230,000-square-foot office building in the city’s Pearl District that was the first downtown office building constructed after the recession. That project, which was built as speculative office space, was completed earlier this year.
The team’s newest project is a 19-story, 430,000-square-foot building at the southwest corner of Southwest Broadway and Southwest Columbia streets. Located in the heart of downtown Portland, Broadway Tower is within walking distance of some of city’s best restaurants, shops, and art galleries. It will feature a 180-key Radisson RED hotel, which was announced in the spring, and 175,000 square feet of office space. The building will also have more than 2,000 square feet of ground-floor retail space. The hotel will occupy the first eight floors and 11 floors of Class A office space will be built atop it. The project will include parking spaces for 247 cars and 132 bikes on four underground parking levels.
“BPM Real Estate Group is committed to developing intelligently designed projects that greatly enhance their communities and we’re honored to be their construction partner,” Troy Dickson, senior vice president with Howard S. Wright, said in a prepared statement. “We have a great history of working with BPM Real Estate Group having recently completed the Pearl West building which is also home to our Portland office.”
Dickson described Broadway Tower as “an amazing addition to downtown Portland” and thanked the executive leadership team at BPM Real Estate Group for the opportunity to deliver another building in the city.
The building is expected to be completed in the third quarter of 2018. It is being designed by GBD Architects and Kidder Mathews is the leasing agent.
In April, the project developer and Carlson Rezidor Hotel Group announced the Radisson RED hotel, a new brand for Portland and the West Coast, would be a major part of the project. The rooms will have Scandinavian-inspired designs and the hotel will build flow between spaces, removing walls that separate areas like the lobby, restaurants, bars and meeting spaces. There will be no front desk and guests will use keyless guestroom entry through a mobile app that also allows guests to order room service and stream wirelessly from their devices to the televisions. In addition to restaurants and bars, the hotel will have a second-level outdoor patio overlooking the South Park Blocks city park.
