Hyatt Hotels Corp. held the grand opening of Hyatt Regency Amsterdam, a 211-key hotel, the first Hyatt Regency to open in The Netherlands’ capital city. Hyatt Regency is a project of Aedes Real Estate and UBM Development. Van Dongen-Koschuch designed the property and the interior design is by Concrete and Jestico & Whiles.
The grand opening allowed visitors to tour the hotel, as well as the restaurant and bar Mama Makan. The company officially opened the hotel in April. Located in the center of Amsterdam, Hyatt Regency Amsterdam is designed to connect business and leisure travelers. The development offers convenient access to the city’s popular museums, shopping and dining. Additionally, the hotel is located less than 10 minutes from Amsterdam RAI Exhibition and Convention Center and a 20-minute drive from Amsterdam Airport Schiphol.
International growth
The property includes 15 suites ranging in size from 322 to 1,356 square feet. Common area amenities include a 24-hour fully equipped fitness center, spa, more than 5,565 square feet of flexible meeting and event space, and a modern 2,055-square-foot ballroom with floor-to-ceiling windows. Additionally, a variety of jogging trails are nearby.
“In the beginning we thought about a construction period of (three and a half) years. During the busy construction, we noticed we could keep some parts of the old Emma children hospital,” Paul Geertman, owner of Aedes Real Estate, who developed the project together with UBM Development, said in a statement. “This took more time than we expected. Also, we encountered archaeological remnants of the 17th century fortifications. In the end, it took us (seven and a half) years to finish the constructions, but it was more than worth it.”
Hyatt Regency Amsterdam is the third Hyatt-brand hotel in The Netherlands. Back in April, Hyatt Hotels Corp. revealed its plans to expand its Middle Eastern footprint with the addition of 14 Hyatt-branded hotels.
