IKEA U.S. has announced plans for its first city center store in the country, which will be located in Manhattan. The retail location will open at 999 Third Ave. in the Midtown neighborhood of New York City in the spring of 2019. The new store also marks the first IKEA Planning Studio concept to open in the U.S.

“We recognize that we are in a rapidly changing retail environment, and to be fit for long-term growth, IKEA is transforming in a way that lets us meet our customers where they are,” said Lars Petersson, country manager at IKEA Retail U.S., in prepared remarks. “New York City is the natural choice to open the first city center store—the most vibrant, dynamic city in the U.S., and the epicenter of retail, business, and culture.”

In January, IKEA signed a lease for 975,000 square feet at a Staten Island, N.Y, distribution facility as part of its Matrix Global Logistics Park. The deal followed two other leases from November 2017 for customer fulfillment centers in Baytown, Texas, and American Canyon, Calif.
