Compared to July 2016, new orders for all manufacturing industries increased by 5.4 percent or approximately $22.6 billion in July 2017.

Compared to July 2016, new orders for all manufacturing industries increased by 5.4 percent or approximately $22.6 billion in July 2017. The biggest increase came from Primary Metals— up by 11.5 percent compared to the previous year, followed by the 9.7 percent increase for Fabricated Metal Products. New orders decreased on a year-over-year basis only for Electrical Equipment, Appliances and Components (-3.4%) and for Transportation Equipment (-1.1%).
New orders for all manufacturing industries decreased by 13.2 percent compared to June 2017. The only industry for which new orders remained the same is Furniture and Related Products, while for all the other industries new orders decreased between 3.7 percent (Nondurable Goods Industries) and 40.4 percent (Transportation Equipment) on a month-over-month basis.
