New orders increased year-over-year for all manufacturing industries by an average 2.5 percent, or roughly $12.2 million in December 2018, according to U.S. Census Bureau data. The most significant change came from Computers and Electronic Products, where orders increased by 11.1 percent compared to December 2017. The sector posted the largest increase month-over-month as well, up by 24.8 percent. Orders for Primary Metals were up by 8.8 percent, followed by Fabricated Metal Products with a 6.3 percent rise. The only decrease came from Machinery, down by 1.5 percent.

Month-over-month, new orders increased by an average 0.9 percent, or nearly $4.7 million. Computers and Electronic Products lead the way with a 24.8 percent increase, followed by Transportation Equipment, up by 11.0 percent. The most notable drop came from Furniture and Related Goods, which decreased by 8.7 percent, followed by Primary Metals with a 6.2 percent decrease and Fabricated Metal Products (down 5.0 percent).

Year-over-year, new orders increased for every manufacturing industry by 3.7 percent, or roughly $17.2 million in November 2018. The most notable change came from Primary Metals, which grew by 8.6 percent compared to November 2017 and dropped by 6.6 percent compared to October 2018. Nondurable Goods Industries recorded the smallest change (up by 2.5 percent). Machinery gains at 6.8 percent, followed by Transportation Equipment (up by 5.4 percent).

New orders decreased for almost every industry month-over-month, with Machinery leading the way (down 10.7 percent). Orders for Electrical Equipment, Appliances and Components dropped by 8.6 percent compared to October 2018, followed by Fabricated Metal Products (down by 8.0 percent). Transportation Equipment registered modest growth (up by 1.6 percent), followed by Computers and Electronic Products with a 40-basis-point increase—the only industries to post gains month-over-month. Overall, new orders decreased 5.5 percent on a month-over-month basis, or by approximately $28.7 million.

The most significant change came from Primary Metals, which grew by 13.3 percent compared to October 2017 and by 5.6 percent compared to September 2018. Furniture and related Products recorded the smallest change (up by 2.7%). Transportation Equipment posted gains at 10.8 percent, followed by Fabricated Metal Products (up by 8.1 percent).

Month-over-month, new orders decreased for almost every industry, with Computers and Electronic Products leading the way (15.3 percent drop). Orders for Transportation Equipment dropped by 13.4 percent compared to September 2018, followed by Durable Goods Industries (down by 4.4 percent). Fabricated Metal Products registered the largest growth (up by 6.1 percent), followed by Primary Metals with a 5.6 percent increase. Overall, new orders decreased by 70 basis points month-over-month, or by approximately $3.6 million.

New orders increased year-over-year in September 2018 for all manufacturing industries by 6.9 percent, or approximately $33.5 million. The most significant change came from the Primary Metals industry, where orders increased by 16.8 percent compared to September 2017, but dropped by 7.6 percent compared to August 2018. Transportation Equipment also posted considerable gains (up by 11.1 percent), while Machinery is the only industry to register declines (down by 1.3 percent).

Month-over-month, new orders decreased for almost every industry, with Primary Metals taking the lead with a 7.6 percent drop. Orders for Fabricated Metal Products fell by 6.6 percent compared to August 2018, followed by Electrical Equipment, Appliances and Components (down by 3.2 percent). On the other end of the spectrum, Computers and Electronic Products registered 21.1 percent gains, followed by Transportation Equipment (up by 4.2 percent). Overall, new orders decreased by 1 percent month-over-month, or by roughly $5.4 million.

Year-over-year, new orders increased for every manufacturing industry by 10.4 percent, or approximately $49.3 million in August 2018. The most considerable change came from Transportation Equipment, which grew by 24.1 percent compared to August 2017. Furniture and related Products recorded the smallest change, up 1.7 percent year-over-year in August. Primary Metals posted gains at 15.4 percent, followed by Durable Goods Industries (13.1 percent increase).

Month-over-month, new orders increased for all industries, with Transportation Equipment leading the way (39.9 percent increase). Orders for Durable Goods Industries gained 16.6 percent compared to July 2018, followed by Electrical Equipment, Appliances and Components (up 12.2 percent). Fabricated Metal Products registered 8.5 percent gains, followed by Primary Metals (up 6.0 percent). Overall, new orders increased 10.0 percent month-over-month, or by roughly $48.2 million.

Year-over-year, new orders increased for all manufacturing industries by 10.2 percent or roughly $44 million in July 2018. Primary Metals lead the way with a 21.6 percent increase compared to July 2017, but orders dropped for this category by 6.2 percent month-over-month. Transportation Equipment recorded gains of 12.8 percent or approximately $7.8 million, closely followed by Electrical Equipment, Appliances and Components with a 12.6 percent growth that equates to more than $1.2 million.

Month-over-month, new orders decreased for every industry, with the biggest change coming from Transportation Equipment (down 30.2 percent). Computers and Electronic Products decreased by 18 percent compared to June 2018, followed by Durable Goods Industries with a 16.8 percent drop. Nondurable Goods recorded the smallest change (2 percent decline), followed by Furniture and Related Products (down 5 percent) and Primary Metals (6.2 percent decrease).

The most notable change came from Primary Metals, which grew by 17.1 percent compared to June 2017, and by 0.3 percent compared to May 2018. The only recorded decline came from Transportation Equipment (down by 6.6 percent). New orders increased for every remaining industry, with Nondurable Goods Industries posting gains at 8.5 percent, followed by Computers and Electronic Products (also up by 8.5 percent).

Month-over-month, new orders increased for most industries, with Computers and Electronic Products leading the way at 17.5 percent. Transportation Equipment increased by 15.9 percent compared to May 2018, followed by Durable Goods Industries with an increase of 7.5 percent. Electrical Equipment, Appliances and Components registered 5.4 percent gains, followed by Machinery (up by 3.3 percent). Fabricated Metal Products dropped by 3.5 percent month-over-month, followed by Furniture and Related Products (down by 1.8%) and Nondurable Goods Industries (down by 1.6%).

New orders increased for all manufacturing industries by 9.9 percent year-over-year, or roughly $46 million in May 2018. Primary Metals lead the way with a 17.1 percent surge compared to May 2017 but increased only 40 basis points month-over-month. Transportation Equipment recorded gains of 14.5 percent or approximately $10.8 million, followed by Fabricated Metal Products with a 10.6 percent growth that translates into more than $3.4 million.

Month-over-month, new orders increased for every industry, with the biggest change coming from Nondurable Goods Industries at 6.0 percent. Electrical Equipment, Appliances and Components increased by 4.9 percent compared to May 2018, followed by Transportation Equipment with a 4.1 percent growth. Primary Metals recorded the smallest increase compared to April 2018 (40 basis points), followed by Furniture and Related Products (80 basis points) and Machinery (180 basis points).

New orders for all manufacturing industries increased by 9.4 percent or approximately $42 million year-over-year in April 2018. The most notable change came from Primary Metals, which grew by 21.2 percent compared to April 2017, and decreased by 3.2 percent compared to March 2018. New orders increased for every remaining industry, with Fabricated Metal Products gaining 14.7 percent, closely followed by Transportation Equipment with a 13 percent growth.

Month-over-month, new orders decreased for every industry, with Transportation Equipment leading the way (22.5 percent). Computers and Electronic Products decreased by 18.5 percent compared to March 2018, followed by Durable Goods Industries (12.4 percent). Machinery posted slightly more modest drops at 8.8 percent, Electrical Equipment, Appliances and Components decreased by 6.3 percent, followed by Furniture and Related Products (3.8 percent) and Primary Metals (3.2 percent).

On a year-over-year basis, new orders increased by 8.0 percent, or approximately $36.9 million, for all manufacturing industries in March 2018. The most relevant increase came from Primary Metals, which grew by 15.1 percent compared to March 2017, and ticked up by 11.1 percent month-over-month. New orders increased for every remaining industry, with Transportation Equipment recording gains at 13.9 percent, followed by Durable Goods with an 8.6 percent growth. New orders increased for every industry on a month-over-month basis, with Transportation Equipment recording the most significant rise (33.0 percent), followed by notable gains for Computer and Electronic Products (30.0 percent) and Durable Goods (20.4 percent). All manufacturing industries increased by 15.9 percent month-over-month, with Furniture and Related Products posting the smallest growth at 6.6 percent.

Durable Goods Industries increased by 6.6 percent compared to January 2018, followed by Furniture and Related Products (6.4 percent) and Electrical Products (4.1 percent). Nondurable Goods Industries posted the most significant decrease at 3.3 percent. Fabricated Metal Products decreased by 60 basis points, while Primary Metals dropped 10 basis points month-over-month.

The most notable change came from Primary Metals, which increased by 14 percent compared to January 2017. New orders increased for each remaining industry sector, with Furniture and related products experiencing the smallest change (up by 1.1 percent). Compared to December 2017, new orders decreased for most industries, with Transportation Equipment recording the most substantial decline at 30.5 percent, followed by Computers and Electronic Products with a 25.8 percent drop. Primary Metals increased by 13.8 percent in January over the previous month, followed by Furniture and Related Products (11.1 percent) and Fabricated Metal Products (9.9 percent).

Industrial demand increased by 7.4 percent or roughly $34 million for all manufacturing industries year-over-year in December 2017. Transportation Equipment led the way with the most significant increase of 14.5 percent compared to December 2016, and a 16.1 percent growth compared to November 2017. Almost all remaining industries recorded increases in new orders, the only exception coming from the Electrical products segment, which posted a 3.1 percent decrease compared to the same period in 2016.

On a month-over-month basis, new orders increased for most industries, with the Computers and Electronic Products category recording a 20.6 percent surge, followed by Transportation Equipment with an uptick of 16.1 percent. On the other end of the spectrum, the most significant drop in new orders came from the Furniture and Related Products category, which decreased by 16.2 percent, while the Primary Metals segment recorded a 3.8 percent fall.

On a year-over-year basis, new orders increased by 8.6 percent or approximately $38 billion for all manufacturing industries in November 2017. The most significant growth came from the Computers and Electronic Products segment, which increased by 14.3 percent since November 2016 and by 2.2 percent compared to October 2017. All other remaining industries experienced surges in new orders, with orders for Primary Metals increasing by 10.8 percent, closely followed by Machinery at 10.4 percent.

New orders decreased for most industries compared to November 2017. The Fabricated Metal Products segment recorded the most significant drop, by 8.0 percent, while new orders in the Machinery category decreased by 7.6 percent. On a month-over-month basis, the only industry category that posted growing rates (other than Computers) was Transportation Equipment with a 6.1 percent increase.
