New orders increased year-over-year for all manufacturing industries by an average 2.5 percent, or roughly $12.2 million in December 2018, according to U.S. Census Bureau data. The most significant change came from Computers and Electronic Products, where orders increased by 11.1 percent compared to December 2017. The sector posted the largest increase month-over-month as well, up by 24.8 percent. Orders for Primary Metals were up by 8.8 percent, followed by Fabricated Metal Products with a 6.3 percent rise. The only decrease came from Machinery, down by 1.5 percent.
Month-over-month, new orders increased by an average 0.9 percent, or nearly $4.7 million. Computers and Electronic Products lead the way with a 24.8 percent increase, followed by Transportation Equipment, up by 11.0 percent. The most notable drop came from Furniture and Related Goods, which decreased by 8.7 percent, followed by Primary Metals with a 6.2 percent decrease and Fabricated Metal Products (down 5.0 percent).

Year-over-year, new orders increased for every manufacturing industry by 3.7 percent, or roughly $17.2 million in November 2018. The most notable change came from Primary Metals, which grew by 8.6 percent compared to November 2017 and dropped by 6.6 percent compared to October 2018. Nondurable Goods Industries recorded the smallest change (up by 2.5 percent). Machinery gains at 6.8 percent, followed by Transportation Equipment (up by 5.4 percent).
New orders decreased for almost every industry month-over-month, with Machinery leading the way (down 10.7 percent). Orders for Electrical Equipment, Appliances and Components dropped by 8.6 percent compared to October 2018, followed by Fabricated Metal Products (down by 8.0 percent). Transportation Equipment registered modest growth (up by 1.6 percent), followed by Computers and Electronic Products with a 40-basis-point increase—the only industries to post gains month-over-month. Overall, new orders decreased 5.5 percent on a month-over-month basis, or by approximately $28.7 million.

The most significant change came from Primary Metals, which grew by 13.3 percent compared to October 2017 and by 5.6 percent compared to September 2018. Furniture and related Products recorded the smallest change (up by 2.7%). Transportation Equipment posted gains at 10.8 percent, followed by Fabricated Metal Products (up by 8.1 percent).

The most significant change came from the Primary Metals industry, where orders increased by 16.8 percent compared to September 2017, but dropped by 7.6 percent compared to August 2018. Transportation Equipment also posted considerable gains (up by 11.1 percent), while Machinery is the only industry to register declines (down by 1.3 percent).
Month-over-month, new orders decreased for almost every industry, with Primary Metals taking the lead with a 7.6 percent drop. The most considerable change came from Transportation Equipment, which grew by 24.1 percent compared to August 2017. Furniture and related Products recorded the smallest change, up 1.7 percent year-over-year in August. Primary Metals posted gains at 15.4 percent, followed by Durable Goods Industries (13.1 percent increase).

Primary Metals lead the way with a 21.6 percent increase compared to July 2017, but orders dropped for this category by 6.2 percent month-over-month. Transportation Equipment recorded gains of 12.8 percent or approximately $7.8 million, closely followed by Electrical Equipment, Appliances and Components with a 12.6 percent growth that equates to more than $1.2 million.
Month-over-month, new orders decreased for every industry, with the biggest change coming from Transportation Equipment (down 30.2 percent). Computers and Electronic Products decreased by 18 percent compared to June 2018, followed by Durable Goods Industries with a 16.8 percent drop. The most notable change came from Primary Metals, which grew by 21.2 percent compared to April 2017, and decreased by 3.2 percent compared to March 2018. New orders increased for every remaining industry, with Fabricated Metal Products gaining 14.7 percent, closely followed by Transportation Equipment with a 13 percent growth.

The most notable change came from Primary Metals, which increased by 14 percent compared to January 2017. New orders increased for each remaining industry sector, with Furniture and related products experiencing the smallest change (up by 1.1 percent). Compared to December 2017, new orders decreased for most industries, with Transportation Equipment recording the most substantial decline at 30.5 percent, followed by Computers and Electronic Products with a 25.8 percent drop. Primary Metals increased by 13.8 percent in January over the previous month, followed by Furniture and Related Products (11.1 percent) and Fabricated Metal Products (9.9 percent).

Industrial demand increased by 7.4 percent or roughly $34 million for all manufacturing industries year-over-year in December 2017. Transportation Equipment led the way with the most significant increase of 14.5 percent compared to December 2016, and a 16.1 percent growth compared to November 2017. Almost all remaining industries recorded increases in new orders, the only exception coming from the Electrical products segment, which posted a 3.1 percent decrease compared to the same period in 2016.
On a month-over-month basis, new orders increased for most industries, with the Computers and Electronic Products category recording a 20.6 percent surge, followed by Transportation Equipment with an uptick of 16.1 percent. On the other end of the spectrum, the most significant drop in new orders came from the Furniture and Related Products category, which decreased by 16.2 percent, while the Primary Metals segment recorded a 3.8 percent fall.

The most significant growth came from the Computers and Electronic Products segment, which increased by 14.3 percent since November 2016 and by 2.2 percent compared to October 2017. All other remaining industries experienced surges in new orders, with orders for Primary Metals increasing by 10.8 percent, closely followed by Machinery at 10.4 percent.

The Fabricated Metal Products segment recorded the most significant drop, by 8.0 percent, while new orders in the Machinery category decreased by 7.6 percent.
